Caretaker of mother on hospice
Donation protected
Hello, I'm Coryn, and I'm reaching out with a heart heavy with the weight of my family's struggles. Right now, my mother, Shelley, is dedicating her life to caring for my grandmother, Donna. Donna has been confined to her bed since the early months of 2022, and the impending reality is that she might not be with us by Christmas.
The journey began in February 2022 when we rushed my grandmother to the emergency room, fearing a heart attack. Little did we know, it was an enlarged pulmonary artery requiring extensive care. Despite efforts for her to regain mobility through physical therapy, a fractured hip left her bed-bound. The facilities meant to aid her recovery became places where we almost lost her on several separate occasions due to the severity of her health challenges.
Facing insurance battles and a denial of specialized care, my grandmother was sent home in May 2022. That's when my mother made the sacrifice of leaving her job to become a full-time caretaker. The loss of income placed an immense burden on my mother and stepfather, who were doing everything they could to make ends meet.
Christmas Eve of 2022 brought another devastating blow—Grandma contracted COVID, endured four strokes, and was rushed to the emergency room. The diagnosis was end-stage heart failure with a prognosis of a year at best. Since then, she's been under hospice care, and with each passing day, her condition worsens, adding more strain on my mother's shoulders.
Operating on a single income, life has become exceptionally challenging as we prepare for the inevitable. I hope to surprise my mother with the gracious help of the community. Our plea is simple: if you can offer any assistance, it would mean the world to my family. Throughout this journey, financial resources have been dedicated to my grandmother's needs, leaving my family in a precarious financial situation. The funds we hope to raise will go towards daily bills and, when the time comes, to provide a dignified memorial service for my beloved grandmother. Your generosity would not only ease their financial struggles but also bring a glimmer of light in these dark and trying times.
