Hello friends and family!
At the end of January, our phenomenal employees and friends, Dr. Gary Drew and his wife Anne, came down with Covid. On top of some other health conditions that were escalated by Covid, Dr. Drew was feeling pretty fatigued by day 3-4, and he went to the ER to be evaluated. It was determined he was dehydrated and had atypical pneumonia. They sent him home with some meds! Unfortunately, on their way home on Sunday, 1/30/22, they were involved in a pretty severe car collision. Anne broke her wrist and has many scrapes and bruises. Dr. Drew cracked his sternum and some ribs, and his L1 was broken in multiple places. He needed an MRI to further evaluate the damage to his L1, but they were unable to perform the MRI until next day. The results from the MRI determined surgery was needed to fuse his L1 back together. Dr. Drew’s surgery was performed on Thursday, 2/3/22 (5 days after the wreck). The surgery went well according to what Anne was able to gather from the medical team. On Friday, 2/4/22, Anne messaged us saying that things had taken a downhill turn. In the space of 30 minutes, Dr. Drew's pain intensified, he was experiencing uncontrollable shaking, and had developed a fever.
They could use our prayers. There is a lot of stress on his body, and his recovery journey is going to be long with ups and downs. Dr. Drew will have a minimum of 3-6 months of healing before we will know if he is physically able to return to work. Neither of them have worked in two weeks, and Anne will potentially be out several more weeks to care for Dr. Drew. Insurance should cover a portion of the medical bills, but there will still be out of pocket expenses associated with both of their treatments. Along with the injury, comes a loss of wages which will make it challenging for them to meet their monthly bills. As those who have been in this situation are aware, there are often many extra expenses that add up over time.
Dr. Drew and Anne have treated everyone as family. They covet your prayers during this time. This Go Fund Me was set up to send out prayer requests to the masses, and to provide an opportunity to bless them through your generosity. We will keep you posted as we hear more, please subscribe so you will receive updates.
With Love,
Dr. Nathan Byard
