Carl G. Lauro Elementary School Supply Drive!
Donation protected
City Year (CY) is an AmeriCorps program that unites a group of 18-25 year olds in a full 10 months of service at under-resourced schools (i.e. Elementary, Middle, and High). Here in Providence, RI, at Carl G. Lauro Elementary School, we work with bright and creative 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students to improve attendance, behavior, and course performance. We do this through academic interventions, mentoring programs, after school enrichment, and family engagement initiatives.
In a typical school year, students would have access to more materials, opportunities for social interactions, and after school clubs and activities. With social distancing protocols, however, students have to remain at their desk from 9-3 and are limited to their classroom pods, both of which have greatly affected students’ learning engagement. During such challenging times, it’s important that students are given the opportunities to build strong self-care habits.
Each classroom deserves to be equipped with the resources necessary for students to thrive in their studies. Fueled by our desire to see our students granted every opportunity for success, we seek your generous support. CY Lauro will be partnering with our school to launch a school supply drive. Through this project, we hope empower students in the classroom by providing adequate resources that will allow them to stay on task while meeting their individual different learning styles, active engagement, and SEL needs.
To achieve this goal, we will be collecting donations virtually until February 1, 2021 through our GoFundMe.
Donation funds received will be used to purchase the following supplies (as suggested by the school):
· White board markers
· Fidget chair bands/fidget spinners (to help with self-regulation)
· Culturally responsive books
· Art supplies (i.e. Construction Paper, Glue, Play-doh, Markers, Paint, Paintbrushes, etc.)
· Pens & No.2 pencils
If you would like to directly purchase supplies, please contact Jamie Lee - contact link below. [Refer to the list above for accepted donation items.]
From our experience in the classroom, we have seen the difference art and inclusive, relevant books can have on the students’ enthusiasm and engagement.
Thank you for choosing to partner with us as we work to support our students’ education.
We can’t wait to be able to share with you all of the support your donation will provide.
