This journey being labeled as a diabetic (not claiming it)started around 1993 I was in denial and ignoring my health so in 2003 I was diagnosed with an ulcer on the bottom of my left foot and as time went on 2008 the left bone that connects my pinky toe was removed. As time progressed the left foot was diagnosed with osteomyelitis(a bone disease). In 2014 my left foot and ankle separated, and four surgical screws were inserted to reconnect the foot and ankle together. Time after time I had to be admitted to the hospital for infections due to the osteomyelitis, and through time, the reality of saving the foot was not an option, and doctors advised in November of 2022, that I had no choice but to go forward with the surgery. On Thursday September 14, 2023 part of my leg was amputated (below the knee). The prosthetic device that I’m eligible for (what insurance company offers), is not going to be the type that would get me back walking around and doing the ministry work that allows me to get out and about to help others. Initially, this news was disheartening, as I had hoped for a device that would restore my mobility completely. However, I am determined not to let this setback hinder my passion for serving others as well as God.
Instead of dwelling on what I cannot achieve with the prosthetic device, I choose to focus on finding alternative ways to continue my ministry work. While I may not be able to physically walk and reach out to those in need, there are still numerous ways to make a difference. I'll continue texting and virtual platforms to connect with individuals, organize online support groups, and offer counseling services remotely.
Admittedly, it may take some time to adjust to this new reality, but I firmly believe that where there is a GOD, there is a way. The limitations imposed by my physical condition will not deter me from fulfilling my purpose. I am determined to adapt and find creative solutions that will allow me to continue helping others in any way possible.
Furthermore, I lack the financial means to purchase the prosthetics that could improve my condition. The total expense amounts to $10,000, covering a two-year supply of the required type.
