Remembering Carla 'Mickie' Maxey

Over 47 years of life, Carla touched the hearts and minds of countless individuals. My mother was a wonderful woman, a dedicated partner and mother to three children. Tragically, on 17 October 2023, she passed away unexpectedly, leaving her children, family, and countless friends to carry on her legacy. She was always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need, and it is my hope to carry on that legacy. One thing that she also taught us is to never be afraid to ask to help, and it is only now in the wake of her passing that I understand the lesson she was trying to teach.

The coming weeks and months will be difficult for all of us as we mourn, grow, and heal together and remember my mother for all she did while among us. Part of this process will involve the management of her estate; contacting her attorney, referring to her last will and testament, and ensuring any requests she wished fulfilled after her death are completed. Unfortunately, this process--while emotionally traumatic--is also beyond the means we have to pay all at once. It is now, with reluctance, that I must ask for help.

I do not ask for assistance in this regard lightly, I must ask your help in laying my mother to rest. I am incredibly grateful to everyone who has touched Carla's life, and in turn been touched by her. The times ahead will be difficult, but in time we will all find hope, growth, and healing together.
