SHARK!!!
While you may hear that and think, “Run!!” I hear it and think, “Where?!!”
From July to September of this year, I will travel to Belize to conduct my Master‘s thesis research on nurse sharks. I’m hoping you will help me in my efforts to raise $5,000 to cover the cost of living and research equipment.
In Belize, I will study the different ways tourism industries are affecting the behavior of nurse sharks. Shark and Ray Alley, my study site, is an area in Belize where boats take tourists to feed and take pictures with the nurse sharks and stingrays in the wild. Sometimes this activity can cause sharks to give up hunting for food on their own and rely only on humans for food. I would like to understand how these activities are affecting their survival.
My research is important to me because it will help educate those who don’t know much about sharks, and will hopefully inspire others to do their part in protecting sharks and the ocean!
I have always been fascinated with sharks, and working with them has been a lifelong passion. I am beyond excited to have the opportunity to fulfill a life-long dream and come face-to-face with these beautiful creatures of the ocean.
