SUPPORT CARLOS CELDRAN IN EXILE
We are friends of Carlos Celdran, the Filipino visual and performance artist, now living in Spain as a consequence of taking on the Philippine Catholic Church on the issue of reproductive rights, and rebutting President Rodrigo Duterte on the issue of the "war against drugs."
An indefatigable campaigner for reproductive rights for women and against the Catholic Church control of female and LGBTQ sexuality, as well as a fervent oppositionist against the current Duterte regime, Carlos was compelled to leave the country, because of death threats, harassment, and relentless barrage of internet trolling and disinformation about him, which has resulted in loss of his career and livelihood inside the city he loves, Intramuros.
Today, Carlos is by himself in Madrid, learning the language and adapting to the culture of his refuge nation with no livelihood. He does not have the security of a job nor a local supportive community, as he did in our beloved Philippines.
We want to enable him to get over this difficult phase of his political exile, so he can recover and resume creating his visual and performance art pieces.
Please join us in raising funds so he may cover his artist materials, costs for the development of his performance productions and his extensive research on the life of Jose Rizal, our national hero, in Madrid. Any amount will go a long way. Vivir Carlos Celdran!
