Carlos Lamberty has dedicated his life to the safety and security of all the citizens of Wilmington. Carlos served the Wilmington Police Department (WPD) for 15 years. During his tenure he worked in various divisions within the police department that led him to the esteemed rank of Sergeant.
Unfortunately, Carlos had to medically retire from WPD due to health complications from his diabetes. A few years ago, one of Carlos' eyes became hazy with spots. He opted for surgery to help, but the procedure was not successful and Carlos lost sight in that eye. As a result, he could not serve his community during his recovery. Carlos held his head high, focused on his health, and was able to return to work.
A few months ago, Carlos' other eye began to develop the same haziness with spots. With no clear diagnosis coming soon, after 15 years of service, Carlos was forced to medically retire.
Many of Carlos' closest friends and former co-workers have many great memories with Carlos. He had many nicknames: honey badger, trompa (an endearing, Spanish term for tantrum), and his favorite "the best." It may seem like quite a few nicknames for one guy, but that's because he is truly "the best!"
As a police officer, Carlos felt like he had found his calling and the desire to serve has never left him. Not everyone can be a police officer, but as they said in the show "The Wire," Carlos was "good police."
We ask for your support of the Lamberty family during this difficult time. Any money that you donate will help supplement the family's income lost due to Carlos’ medical retirement. While his pension covers some expenses, the family would very much appreciate the support to help cover the rest of their expenses, including travel to Durham for treatments. Thank you for reading this request. We hope that you and your love ones are safe and healthy during this time.
We have added a few photos to show Carlos at his best. Here he is with his wife and daughter (not pictured: his son). When Carlos married his wife, Heather, his co-workers and son were his best man and groom's men. The "colorful" picture was taken when Carlos was a detective.
Carlos and his family don’t know what comes next but we’d like to show them that his friends, family, and the community he served appreciate his years of dedicated service to their safety and well being.
I am asking you to share this story with your friends and family through the mighty power of social media.
Thank you!!!!
