This GoFundMe campaign is dedicated to supporting an incredibly special and significant individuals. But first, a little background about myself:
Recently, I faced a series of heart-wrenching challenges. I lost my mother to pancreatic cancer, and shortly after, my uncle received the news that his leukemia had returned after a period of remission. To add to this difficult journey, I received a text notifying me that a good friend of mine -Carly's leukemia had also resurfaced.
Carly's battle with cancer began on January 4, 2018, when she was diagnosed with ALL B-Cell leukemia—a form of cancer that specifically affects the bone marrow. She demonstrated incredible strength, enduring grueling chemotherapy and successfully entering remission.
Unfortunately, within the past year, she faced a second diagnosis. In the realm of cancer, a second diagnosis, like my uncle Mark's (my mother's brother), significantly reduces the chances of survival.
Carly recently completed a round of experimental treatment that led her back into remission for the second time. Regrettably, this treatment is temporary, and its duration is uncertain. When her cancer inevitably returns, her insurance mandates a bone marrow transplant—a procedure with its own inherent risks. Carly has identified an alternative treatment, but it's not covered by insurance and comes with a staggering price tag of $500,000. My uncle Mark faces steep monthly expenses of $14,000 for his chemotherapy pills. This is the harsh reality of cancer—a relentless financial burden on top of the emotional and physical toll it takes.
In her inspiring journey towards recovery, Carly has created a remarkable sweatshirt designed to cater to the unique needs of cancer patients and others undergoing medical treatments. Our primary goal for this GoFundMe campaign is twofold: First, we aim to raise funds for any future treatments that won't be covered by insurance, ensuring that Carly receives the best care available. Second, we aspire to support Carly in launching her own company that will provide these special garments to women and men facing similar challenges. These sweatshirts are custom-made and designed by Carly to seamlessly accommodate ports or IVs, eliminating the need to change or remove a person's top during treatment.
Please join us in this meaningful mission. Your contributions will not only help Carly and my uncle Mark in their battles but also empower them to give back to the community and be prepared for any future treatments that may arise. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of those fighting against the relentless adversary that is cancer.
