Help Carol Gavin clean up her property & return home

Donation protected
I have set this gofundme page up to help a friend, Carol Gavin return to her house in Helenvale that was devastated during the Cyclone Jasper flood in December.

Carol is in her 70s and until the floods she lived at her Shipton Flat Road property on the banks of the Wallaby Creek.

She has recently approached me and asked for help to co-ordinate a clean up of her property.

To date she has applied for but has not received any grants, and is now desperate to return to her home at Helenvale in the coming months.

She does not have money to rebuild, or to replace the essential things she needs in order to return home to a functioning household.

She is currently living at the Peninsula Caravan Park in Cooktown, but has to move out by 16th June 2024 and at this stage has no where to move to.

She is a Pensioner and has recently had an operation, and is no longer able to clean up the property just herself and her son Paul, as it is too big of a job for them.

She needs community support to get the house back to a habitable state, after losing just about everything in the floods.

She has informed me that she needs to do the following, in order to return and live at the property:

1. Have power connected to site to support an external powerpoint to run a caravan and cleaning equipment (cost $700);

2. Purchase new pump and pipes to run water from Wallaby Creek to a new water tank. It was all taken in the floods;

3. purchase a new water tank ($8,000). It was taken in the floods. In the meantime she needs access to a water pod to have potable water at the property;

4. She needs regular access to a skip bin that is emptied once full (I am advised by Carol that Council have been very kindly assisting with this to date);

5. Have her sewerage tank pumped, and inspected and possibly replaced;

6. A new mobile phone (as her current phone is barely working, as it was submerged under water);

7. Purchase or hire a portable toilet- until a new toilet and plumbing can be installed at the residence.

8. purchase a generator to run power at the property once clean; and

9. purchase a whipper snipper and mower to maintain her property, and eventually a slasher and tractor.

With money raised, I will arrange the purchase of all items and ensure they are delivered to Carol and installed at the property.

We will also co-ordinate a working bee at a later date (hopefully towards the end of June) to clean up the oroperty.

I know how wonderful our community is, and any amount of monetary donation will go a long way to support Carol and Paul to return home and begin their journey of healing.

Please support this cause however you can. If you cannot afford to support this cause then please share the post far and wide, and join in on the working bee once a date has been set.

Thank you
