About Helping Young Minds and Mad4Dance

In 2019, a dance school based in Christchurch called Mad4Dance took on the mammoth but exciting task of renovating a premises in Christchurch to become a new permanent base for our 200 students and create a hub in the community to promote dance and wellbeing.  Now that this beautiful space is completed and functioning, they are creating a charity which will be based at Mad4Dance centre for dance and wellbeing. This charity will help and support young people and their families in this community who are struggling with mental health issues. The charity will work alongside mental health professionals and will offer activities, courses, counselling, guidance and information to children and young people while partnering other agencies and organisations to improve their overall wellbeing.  Please join us in making a difference to the lives of young people in our local community. Being 'young' in today's world is tougher then it's ever been and we need to join together as a community to support and help our young people build lives for themselves which are happy and fulfilled.

Why am I getting involved?

I have given myself the challenge of completing three events to help raise funds for "Helping Young Minds".  The reason I am doing it is because my niece has (and is) benefiting greatly from her involvement with Mad4Dance - the inspiration for and impetus behind Helping Young Minds.  She has inspired me to get off my backside and do something positive - and of course I need to maintain my status as the slightly mad, but kind of cool auntie!!
The training has already started, and I am starting the fundraising NOW too, because it will keep me focused and accountable through the long winter months of training.

So:

in March I will be completely my first trail half marathon (and only my second ever half marathon) by taking part in the Dorset Ooser;

at the beginning of July, I will be running 5 mile laps around a course in the Hope24 event – a 24 hour trail running event. The idea is you do as many or as few laps as you want over the 24 hour period. Last year I managed a total of 6 laps - 30 miles. Thankfully you can have as many breaks as you like!!;

at the end of July, I will be taking part in a SUPBikeRun Triathlon – this means Stand Up Paddleboarding, Mountain Biking and Trail Running.

Now, this may make it sound like I am some sort of fitness freak – far from it. I love trail running – but am probably one of the slowest on the planet; I love mountain biking – but am probably one of the slowest on the planet; and I love paddleboarding – not so bad at this one!! I do, however, like to challenge myself – and why not do it in the name of a very deserving cause.

So, please put your hands in your pockets - just a fiver will help towards this wonderful cause!
