Carolina's Cancer Costs
Donation protected
The Story
My name is Victoria and I set up this GoFundMe to raise money for my best friend Carolina. The listed beneficiary is Carolina’s mom, Silvia, for ease of bill payment.
Carolina's dreams came true in July 2018 when she was offered a spot at Atlantic Veterinary College on Prince Edward Island in Canada. She left her friends and awesome job in Denver, Colorado to start her four year journey to become a Doctor.
However, it only took about a month and a half until these dreams had to be put on pause. Carolina's intuition sent her to the hospital to get a large lump in her right breast checked out. On October 3, 2018 Carolina was diagnosed with breast cancer at age 26. She had to pack up her apartment and say goodbye to plans of being a Vet so that she could head back to the US for surgery and treatment.
Why We Need Help
Anyone facing a battle with cancer will have countless medical costs, but Carolina's situation is special. Carolina gave up her health insurance in the United States to get health insurance while she studied in Canada. Coming back to the US this week, she had no health insurance. Her mother worked day and night to figure out how to get her the best insurance plan, and successfully got Carolina on a private insurance plan in the US. But the financial costs of this unexpected challenge are still going to be more than Carolina and her family will be able to cover on their own.
The Treatment Plan
The doctors in Canada that gave Carolina her diagnosis believe that a double mastectomy and chemotherapy are the necessary steps to beating the cancer. Both of these treatment plans are extremely aggressive, but Carolina is ready for the fight.
How Your Donations Will Help
Your donations will go straight to Carolina's medical care during her fight. Her mother, Silvia Scherer, is her primary care taker during this time, who will need to take off of work in order to get Carolina to doctor's appointments, care for her after surgery, and take her to get treatment. Your donations will be a security for the family so that these two fierce women can focus on getting Carolina back to health and not worry about the financial strain.
How Soon?
Your donations will help Carolina right away. Her surgery will be taking place in the following days and the recovery will be difficult and long. Treatment will begin as soon as she is healed. Doctors appointments have already began and bills will be coming soon. Any donations will make an immediate impact to help Carolina and her mother.
Thank you so much, and I will be posting updates as they come.
