Caroline Neita - Jamaica's Finest!!
Donation protected
This is a page none of us ever envisaged writing, and let me say that we, Caroline's family and friends, are devastated by her loss; she leaves an unimaginable hole in all our lives!
We have created this page to honour her but also to direct people to the family's wishes, in lieu of sending flowers, or if you are moved to help, we ask that you make a donation to the charities and causes close to Caroline's heart.
Those who knew Caroline know that she was selfless and always thinking about others, but for her, it wasn't just lip service; she was a doer. She was passionate about several charities, and rather than just donating to them, she volunteered or worked with them.
One such charity was The African Caribbean Leukaemia Trust (ACLT). She was so moved to hear about Daniel De-Gale, diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia (ALL) when he was just 6 years of age. His parents, Beverley De-Gale and Orin Lewis raised awareness of the huge disparity for People of Colour to receive life-saving Bone Marrow Transplants. This spoke to Caroline's sense of injustice, wanting to be part of the solution and was the start of Caroline's long association as a volunteer, donor and friend to the charity.
Another charity she supported was Young Roots. A charity that supports young refugees fleeing unimaginable atrocities and starting a new life in the UK. Again, Caroline's sense of injustice meant she couldn't sit back and hope they would be supported. She got involved and worked for Young Roots as their Accountant, reconciling their income and fundraising to include new income streams to ensure the young refugees had money and access to services, etc.
Since Caroline's first diagnosis of Breast Cancer in 2011, she was treated at The Royal Marsden. The care and compassion they showed her was amazing and many of the staff there viewed her as a friend and not just a patient! She also couldn't speak highly enough of them either.
The final charity is St Christopher's Hospice who cared for Caroline for her final six weeks of life. Not only did they care for Caroline exceptionally well, they also cared for us, her family and friends. They made us drinks, they offered comforting words and sometimes just a squeeze of a hand. Many of the staff on City Ward told us, and I believe them, that Caroline was their favourite patient. Such was Caroline, as we all know!!
So, to honour our dear daughter, sister, aunt, niece, godmother, colleague and friend, we want to make donations to each of these four charities that held a special place in Caroline's heart as a legacy of who she was.
So, in lieu of sending flowers, or if you are moved to help, we ask that you make a donation.
The money raised will be split between these four charities so that she continues to make a difference in other people's lives as she would have continued to do if she was still with us.
Thank you so much in advance. We really appreciate your helping us to leave a legacy for Caroline.
