Help Caroline with medical expenses
Donation protected
Hi my name is Kathleen Ulrich and this Go Fund Me is started on behalf of my daughter, Caroline Ulrich. On May 12 I brought Caroline to the ER at Kent General in Dover, De due to severe vomiting and dehydration going on 3 days. After some testing it was revealed that Caroline was in liver and kidney failure and needed to be transferred to Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia!! We were in complete shock which quickly turned to panic. At that point Caroline was looking at organ transplants, if she survived.. Einstein is the only hospital in Philadelphia and the greater area that has a specialized liver floor.. They only accepted her because of her age (27) which was the main factor in her chance for survival. Caroline hung on in the ER of Kent General waiting for an ICU bed at Einstein. Thankfully the next afternoon one was available and she was transported. She spent almost a week on 2 different ICU floors receiving great care from top-notch nurses and physicians. Dr. Navarro, who is head of the entire liver program at Einstein, was her lead doctor overseeing her care.. They looked into every possibility of how and why this happened and meticulously oversaw every detail of her care, cautiously leading her body toward healing. Caroline was moved to the liver/kidney floor the second week where her healing, sluggish at first, continued. First her liver function improved, then slowly her kidneys started to heal. Her kidneys still have a ways to go.
Amazingly Caroline is home now, still with much healing to do. In addition to the loss of income during her hospital stay Caroline will need to take time to gain strength and endurance as her organs and body continues to heal. Fortunately Caroline has medical insurance, but will still have out-of-pocket hospital expenses, medications, special nutritional needs, travel expenses to Phila. for dr. appts., treatments, and a myriad of expenses related to this acute medical crisis that she hasn't even encountered yet as her life and health needs have changed forever. Of course this does not include just trying to keep up with the cost of daily living for herself and her 5 year old daughter, Piper.
Thank you so much for reading this story and considering a donation. If a donation is not possible, please consider sharing her story. Any little bit helps and is very much appreciated.
Thanks, also, for all the support, thoughts and prayers. We are so grateful for Caroline's progress and hope that she continues to a full recovery.
Thank you all so much!!!
