Caroline's Fundraiser for Fitness in Recovery
Hi there!
For those of you who know me, you know how life changing fitness has been for me over the past 10 years or so; anything from yoga, crossfit, peloton, dragon boating, skiing, etc (you also probably know that I hate running). About 4-5 years ago I met John Breen and Dr. Sidra Ghafoor who started a non-profit to support individuals on their recovery journey tend to their wellness and cultivate meaningful relationships. Today FIR is an official 501(c)3 non-profit that utilizes specifically designed movement sequencing as dosed-exercise to provide hedonic rehabilitation and accelerate systemic addiction & behavioral health recovery.
Over the last 4+ years we have expanded into three different divisions (community, campus, medical) and we are able to offer about 40+ classes per month (donation based) to individuals in recovery (recovery looks different for all of our members). I have had the opportunity to teach a wonderful/eclectic group of all ages/backgrounds/recovery over the past few years on Monday nights at 6:45PM (join me if you wish). I have seen these attendees flourish emotionally and physically. We hold each other accountable and push each other to do and be better, both in and out of the gym.
Since the pandemic, our classes have been smaller which means donations have been down. So in honor of Fitness in Recovery, I have signed up for the Escape the Cape Triathlon (Olympic race) on August 29th in Cape May, NJ & the IRONMAN 70.3 in Atlantic City on September 12th.
Please consider donating, no amount is to small.
