Carrowcrory Community Woodland
I am the keeper of the Carrowcrory Labyrinth Gardens in Co. Sligo, Ireland. 11.5 acres of farmland surrounding us 360 degrees has been put on the market.
This land is not good quality for grazing as it is boggy and waterlogged, but what does grow well are native trees. Already from non use birch, alder, willow, hazel, and hawthorn have arrived and established through wind, birds and animals. These trees are already draining the land and providing home for wildlife, fungi, and flowers
We do not have a public access community woodland in our beautiful natural landscape area so this would be ideal as a learning and leisure utility, as well as being a small token towards adding to the too little native woodland existing in Ireland. I
There have been people visiting who are considering buying the land to try and apply to build holiday homes on this land as an investment. People have already tried that around here and the homes have remained empty. A waste and an eyesore, plus where we are took us years to arrange utility services
I am a firm believer that we all need some Tree and/or Garden Sanctuary somewhere.
I have no intention of creating personal profit or income from this though there may be future donation drives for expenses. Once This land is obtained, I will look into the Native Tree Planting grants available and share any rewards from this for donator benefits in some way.
For now, the priority is to purchase this land asap before some absent holiday home developers do. This is urgent, please help.
I look forward to when you can visit and bathe in this natural woodland that also has magnificent scenery full of landscape nature based folklore. First, we need to fund it. Thank you.
