Hi, this is posted on behalf of Carsen’s Parents, Parker and Faith.

When we found out that Faith was pregnant, we were very happy and overjoyed. Graysen was very excited to finally have a baby brother!

Over the course of pregnancy, we have discovered that Carsen will have to undergo a few surgeries after Birth.

Carsen had a tracheoesophageal fistula, where his esophagus was not connected to his stomach, which was causing Carsen to not be able to eat, drink or swallow when she was pregnant, so she had a very large amount of amniotic fluid and gestational hypertension. This surgery was performed the very next day. After the surgery was performed, it turned out there was a very small leak in the repair spot. Although it did not cause any more issues, it still put a hold on our continuing progress. Almost three weeks later, we finally got the green light to continue on.

Another issue we were diagnosed with was called a “Right Aortic Arch”. Essentially what we understood from it is that the vessel that takes blood from the left side of the heart to the body branches off to the right instead of the left of his trachea. Upon Carsen being born, more echo’s and sonograms were performed, then Carsen was diagnosed with a heart Coarctation, which is where one of the blood vessels coming off his heart is very narrow. Carsen was put on a Medicine to keep a “bypass” vein open so there would be less restricted blood flow to the bottom of his body. Two weeks pass by, and a new diagnosis came out that he now has a “AP Window”. This is a very rare heart defect, that is less than 1% of all other heart defects, where there is a hole connecting the major artery taking blood from the heart to the body and the one taking blood from the heart to the lungs. If this is not resolved or found in a quick manner could lead to high blood pressure, too much blood in the lungs, and overall congestive heart failure. As of right now, Surgery is planned for next week.

When Carsen was born, they removed 12(!!!) pounds of amniotic fluid from Faith’s belly! We were told that was pretty much record breaking. I’m never going to say “my back hurts!” again after that!

We are currently asking for funds as we seek to help cover any medical bills and other bills and expenses that we will encounter while we are here, including the medical bills we have already received throughout the pregnancy, future hospital and doctor visits after release, and including transportations costs and other minor miscellaneous expenses. We have came to the conclusion that if there are ANY remaining funds available after our financial obligations are cared for, the remaining amount will be donated to the OSF St. Francis Medical Center Children’s Hospital of Illinois, where we have been working with an absolutely BRILLIANT care team and staff who have been very supportive and caring for not just Carsen but our family.

Any and all donations and gifts are VERY much appreciated, and updates will be posted as soon as we are able.
