Carsen’s Road to Recovery
Donation protected
On Monday, August 12th, my 19 year old nephew, Carsen Pennington, rode his Harley from Parma to Boise to buy a camper trailer to use for work. Carsen works for Knife River and works 2 weeks on / 2 weeks off near the Idaho / Utah border.
He and his best friend, Dylon, parted ways after spending the day looking at Campers; Dylon headed one direction, Carsen the other.
5 seconds later ... he was hit by a car and thrown 30 feet from his motorcycle.
At 7:40 PM, he was traveling on Ustick Rd., near Maple Grove, when a car didn’t see him and pulled out from a side street, hitting him. Within minutes he was surrounded by paramedics and firefighters and a number was written on his forehead to record the time a tourniquet was placed on his right leg.
Carsen was blessed with life and we are so grateful to still have our precious boy.
Unfortunately, his right foot up to his calf had to be amputated in order to save his life. He had a small brain bleed and had to have surgery to repair his hip and pelvis, among other minor injuries.
Carsen’s helmet saved his life.
At this early stage in the game it’s hard to know exactly what Carsen will need financially down the road. He lives with his parents in a tri-level house and will need to take over his parents bedroom. Carsen will need a prosthetic and lots of rehab and we are hearing that it can take years before the insurance claim is closed or settlement paid because recovery will be ongoing.
It is my hope that we can help take a huge financial burden off their plates and let Carsen focus on healing. The funds raised will help pay for out of pocket medical expenses, Carsen’s personal bills while he’s out of work, etc.
Please pray for this 19 year old who just had his life flipped upside down.
