Sunday October 19th started out like any normal day here in Utah. The crisp fall air, and changing leaves were perfect for a day of climbing for friends who just wanted to get out and enjoy the weather, and their favorite pastime.

While climbing, a boulder came loose and caused Braden to fall 20 feet to the ground injuring his head and arm. The boulder fell and crushed Carsen's hand and foot, scraping a lot of skin off his hand and wrist, and practically amputating his foot.

The boulder severed both main ateries in Carsen's foot and he began bleeding severely. While Braden suffered head contusions and was bleeding badly, he and Jarod were on top of their game and were able to tie a tourniquet around Carsen's calf to slow the bleeding, which in turn saved his life. He would have bled out.

911 was called and Life Flight was sent out to rescue and take the guys to McKay Dee Hospital. Braden was released sunday night with stitches, staples and a badly hurt arm. We are so grateful for him and Jarod for their timeliness in assisting Carsen. We owe you guys SO MUCH! Carsen was immediately taken into surgery for his foot and hand, and was in surgery for about 6 hours.

His hand was okay, and there was enough skin left to be stretched with no skin graphs. His foot was able to be put back together, but they are still unsure if he will lose it. After 3 days at McKay Dee, Carsen was transferred to University of Utah for his best chance with their specialists, and to use their Hyperbaric Chamber because they were concerned about perfusion to his toes.

Ever since birth basically, Carsen has been very active. Playing sports, being outside, running around and being active have been things that he has always enjoyed. He has always lived life to the fullest and had so much energy. His latest hobby climbing has given him so much joy. He has been a 7 day a week climber at The Front here in Ogden, and expressed numerous times how much fun it is for him and his friends. It pains me to see this happen to such an outgoing person, and would gladly trade him places if I could.

I am setting up this Go Fund Me page to alleviate the stress on Carsen and his family during this stressful time. Whether or not Carsen will lose his leg is unknown, but wherever that decision lands, there will be costs. Please help me in aiding my family.

UPDATE : 10/25/14 Carsen is scheduled to have his leg amputated tomorrow. The remaining artery is not able to pump sufficient amount of blood throughout the foot and it is causing it to die. Doctors have done what they could to save it, but without the dorsal artery to supply blood to the top portion of the foot and toes, there is no way for them to get the blood they need.

Carsen said "This week has been extremely difficult for me so thank you to everyone who has shown me support in any way, I love you all. Tomorrow I will be going into surgery to have my foot and ankle amputated. Life has thrown me a major curveball but that will never stop me from swinging for the fences! If any of you want to come see me I'm at the university of utah hospital. I would love to see all of you before I go to surgery!"

UPDATE 10/26/14
Carsen went into surgery at 2:30 and had the amputation done just below the knee. The surgery went well and he came out calling himself "Captain Stubs". It's nice to see that even through traumatic experiences, his humor and positive attitude is always there to brighten up the situation. LOVE YOU CARSEN!!
