Help bring Carson home

Hi, my name is Lisa, I am a mom of 17 and 19yr old boys. I live in Port Coquitlam BC and I would love to have your support.

Our dear friends Mark and Lori Storey have just received the most devastating and unimaginable news any parent could ever hear. Their youngest son, 18 year old, Carson Storey was just involved in a life altering skiing accident on Cypress Mountain.

On Apr 14, 2025 while enjoying the beautiful spring weather, Carson slipped down an icy gully. He was helping his friend retrieve an errant ski, when he slipped and possibly went off a cliff (wearing only a tshirt)!
He struck his head (yes - he was wearing a helmet), and sustained multiple traumatic injuries, including horrible "road rash", a broken bone in his cheek and also a broken femur.

North Shore Search and Rescue responded and dropped doctors to Carson's precarious location. They helped to stabilize him before they could airlift him directly to VGH for assessment and treatment.

Carson is currently in ICU at VGH and has already undergone surgery to repair his ear and his leg. Initial CT scan showed some swelling on the brain and Carson was responding to painful stimulus. Family was optimistic. Carson is young. He is strong and he is healthy.

Unfortunately, a follow up MRI scan shows evidence of a traumatic brain injury and his prognosis has become very guarded at this time. Despite efforts to rouse him, Carson remains unresponsive and on life supports, with his loved ones agonizing at his bed side. Mark and Lori have been told that due to the severity of Carson's brain injuries, he will likely require life long supports.

Can you imagine? Carson is 18. He is a kind and wonderful kid. He was in the prime of his life, with so much to look forward to. He has a lovely girlfriend named Diana. He enjoys camping, hanging out with the boys and going to concerts. He just graduated from Riverside Secondary School last year. He is actively involved in the community. He works out at the gym, played lacrosse, and was the captain of his PoCo Pirates hockey team. He is a hockey referee and also coaches a U13A hockey team in Coquitlam. He is truly loved by all who know him.

As a mom of 2 teenage sons, I am absolutely gutted by Carson's situation. I am that "over involved" mom, who wants to know who her kids are hanging out with and what they are up to... I even manage their hockey teams so I can spy on them! Carson was on the "mom approved" friends list. I have known Mark, Lori, Kyle and Carson for many, many years and I can say without a doubt, you honestly couldn't ask for a nicer family.

I am starting this fundraiser on behalf of so many friends and families who are desperate to help the Storeys in any way they can. At this time, I would love to start by helping to alleviate some of the financial burdens associated with Carson's hospitalization at VGH.

I am a nurse, so I also understand the costs associated with a lengthy rehabilitation and the adaptive devices that will be necessary for Carson to come home. I would like to be forward thinking and start to raise money to help offset some of those costs as well.

Please join me, and share this fundraiser far and wide, so that we can help Mark, Lori and Kyle be present with Carson during this incredibly difficult time.
