Carten100 - Velindre Charity Bike Ride

On May 10th 2025, We as a team of ten will take on the Carten100, a demanding 109-mile cycle from Cardiff to Tenby, to raise vital funds for Velindre Cancer Centre, known as the Hospital of Hope.

This challenge is deeply personal to each of us. I will be riding alongside my 16-year-old son in memory of my late mother—his beloved grandmother—who received exceptional care at Velindre during her battle with cancer. We as a collective group have discussed participating in a charitable event and after being truly Inspired by Steve Jones, a dedicated Velindre ambassador, we are undertaking this journey to honour those we have lost, those still fighting, and the incredible professionals who provide care and support every day.

Among our team, Craig Davies rides in memory of his late father, whose battle with cancer left an indelible mark on his family. Andrew Jones witnessed firsthand the devastating impact of this disease on his beloved grandfather, ‘Bampa. Joshua Edge is cycling in honour of his partner, Laura, who fought cancer with incredible strength and determination and won. Craig Huish is taking on this challenge for his young son, who faced cancer at such an early age with extraordinary courage.

Although they may not have experienced cancer in their immediate families, Joel Williams, Daniel Jenkins, and Lee Clash are dedicating themselves to this challenge, showing unwavering support for those who have. Their commitment highlights the importance of standing together in the fight against this cruel disease.

For most of us, this is far more than just a cycling event—it’s a deeply personal mission. We are not seasoned cyclists; for many, this is a true Couch to Carten journey. But no matter the physical challenge ahead, it is nothing compared to the battle faced by those living with cancer and their loved ones.

We are riding to honour those we have lost, to support those still fighting, and to ensure Velindre can continue its vital work in providing care, treatment, and hope. Every donation, no matter how big or small, will help fund essential services for cancer patients and their families.
