Island boys selected to row for Team GB

“We’re so excited, today we made it onto the GB Rowing Team! This is an incredible opportunity for us to represent our country as Team GB’s J16 Men’s Double against France on July 13th ….not much notice to get organised! Thankyou for taking the time to read our funding page , any donation, support or sharing of our story is appreciated ” ….Carter and Louis

Isle of Wight boys, Carter (age 16) and Louis (age 15) met in 2019 at Shanklin Sandown Rowing Club, having been identified at the age of 12 yrs as having potential they were initially placed together in a coastal double, quickly progressing to both coastal and river rowing. For the last four years, Shanklin Sandown Rowing Club have provided outstanding support, coaching and access to the equipment needed to support the boys ambition to be the best, for this we are incredibly grateful.

With the support of the club, Carter and Louis have competed in countless Regattas across the South Coast, numerous head races up and down the country, representing their Club at the South Coast Championships, British Championships (winning Gold in 2022 and Bronze 2023) and the region of Wessex at the Junior Inter-regional Regatta (winning Gold medals for the last 3 consecutive years).

The boys train 6 times per week, after school, evenings and weekends often travelling to the mainland to compete on the National stage and balancing all this alongside additional training commitments in preparation for trials and GCSE exams this year!

On Sunday 30th June their dedication and hard work paid off, they travelled to the National Watersports Centre in Nottingham where they took part in British Rowing GB Trials, and after a convincing win were selected to row for Great Britain in the upcoming GB v France rowing match, in France, on the 13th of July as the J16 Mens Double for Team GB. A huge achievement and a step closer in their journey towards their ambition to achieve an Olympic Gold medal in the future.

Why we need your help
There is no financial support available for young rowers, we are therefore looking to raise £2000 to help with the costs associated with:

  • Travel Expenses to France
  • Boat transport
  • Accommodation
  • Coaching

Competing at an International level for the first time is a huge step in anyone’s athletic career and a perfect opportunity to provide inspiration to other young rowers and Athletes across our Island and the wider UK. Your contribution, no matter the size, will directly help Carter and Louis get to France to represent their country.
