Carter Hay ~ DCI Genesis Fundraiser

Carter Hay is a Senior at Midlothian High School in Midlothian, Texas and a member of the Panther Regiment as a trumpet player. Carter has dreamed of becoming a member of Drum Corps International for a very long time. Through his dedication, persistence, and countless hours of practice, he auditioned for Genesis Drum & Bugle Corps based in Austin, Texas and was offered a provisional contract to become a member of the 2024 World Class Division Corps.

For those of you unfamiliar with a drum corps, it is a musical marching unit consisting of brass instruments, percussion instruments and color guard. Drum corps are specialized marching bands. Typically operating as independent organizations (no scholastic affiliation), drum corps perform on-field competitions, parades, festivals and other civic functions. The rules of Drum Corps International set the age limit for drum corps participation at 22, with most participants aged 17-21. Founded in 1972, Drum Corps International is the governing body for drum and bugle corps responsible for developing and enforcing rules of competition and for providing standardized adjudication at sanctioned drum and bugle corps competitions throughout the United States and Canada. It is headquartered in Indianapolis, Indiana. As the self-styled "Marching Music's Major League", DCI's mission is to create an environment for participating corps "to engage in education, competition, entertainment, and the promotion of individual growth." The organization also emphasizes positive life-transforming experiences for all participants.

A provisional contract is offered to those who possess the skill and talent to become a member, but is contingent upon meeting the required financial obligations, which is $4,800 for the entire season. A guaranteed position within the Corps is obtained once all financial requirements have been satisfied.
