Carts For Community! ♥️

Hello everyone,
For those who don’t know me, my name is Viviana. I am a community organizer in the Northwest Side of Chicago and throughout the last year I have supported various efforts related to our new asylum seeking neighbors. Most recently, I have developed a close partnership with a local church (New Hope) in the Hermosa neighborhood through my employer, Chicago Cares.
Since May, New Hope Church has become a respite spot for migrants in need of a shower, groceries, access to washing machines and a place to simply rest & experience community.
In addition to serving our new neighbors, New Hope also hosts a food pantry twice a week through which they serve close to 500 community members. In supporting this pantry I came to learn about how many of our new (and old) neighbors have no easy means of transporting their groceries. While a few have cars, and some have foldable shopping carts, many more have neither.
In bearing witness to the transportation struggles many recipients of this pantry were having, I felt called to do something to try and help - which is where y’all come in. This holiday season, I’d like to invite you, your friends and your loved ones to help support our new asylum seeker neighbors and our long time Hermosa community residents in need of foldable shopping carts.
The goal is to purchase 100 carts (at $25 each tax free) before the year is over so that residents are prepared for the winter months ahead. This goal is ambitious, but I believe together we can accomplish great things.
Through your monetary investment, you will be supporting the empowerment of a family to be able to move with more ease to the pantry and beyond! And if you’d like to go even a step further in your investment, I’d like to invite you to join us in service by volunteering at one of our many pantry days (Thursdays 3-5/5-7 or Saturday 10-2pm). To sign up & provide hands-on support, please head over to the Chicago Cares website.
Thank you♥️
