Casa Kimberly's primary mission will be to provide housing and additional support services to members of the transgender community in the Rio Grande Valley. Trans people in rural areas such as the Rio Grande Valley often face significant barriers to accessing employment and stable housing due to transphobia and lack of familial support and acceptance. Trans people in our area are disproportionately affected by employment discrimination, experiencing homelessness, and challenges with accessing existing resources- which can often be hostile and non-affirming to the trans community. Casa Kimberly will provide members of our community in need with safe and affirming short-term housing, employment training and assistance, and connection to other needed resources to empower them in improving their lives. Casa Kimberly is a project of GENtex- a nonprofit organization that seeks to provide advocacy and support to the Rio Grande Valleys transgender, nonbinary, and gender non conforming community.
