Cascarrabias: A Short Film
Donation protected
To all my Friends and Family,
The time has come to share this very special project with you. My debut film.
I began writing this story as an exercise to speak freely about buried feelings and confront unresolved issues through storytelling. For years, I felt Cascarrabias was hyper-unique to life in a border town, yet as I shared it with confidantes, the emotions I was grappling with began to resonate with those around me. As it took shape, I began to realize this story is not just personal to me but to all fathers and sons in some way; the duel of relationships, the cultures in conflict, the young and the old, the hopeful and the hopeless, and how we hold a mirror up to one another and either choose to look away…or lean forward.
Synopsis
CHAVA, a down-and-out aspiring writer must confront long-buried truths when he’s called home to care for his dogmatic father, RICO. Back in his hometown of El Paso, TX, the past he thought he left behind begins to haunt him, causing surreal panic attacks which are exacerbated by the men from his childhood that live in this border town– eternally caught in the in-between of two sets of cultures. Chava must face generations of machismo in order to finally say what has been bottled up all these years, putting the relationship with his father to the ultimate test.
What We Need & Why
Cascarrabias is an indie film in the truest sense, and our core team of filmmakers are waving their usual rates to make it happen.
The money we wish to raise would be used to finance our Camera Package which includes:
- the rental of a 16mm film camera with lenses,
- 10 canisters of film, and
- professional film processing.
Thank you for your interest in the success of this project and thank you for supporting independent filmmaking.
It means the world to me.
