Let’s rally for Casey & Honor Bob!

Hi, my name is Christy and I’m setting up this Go Fund Me for my dear friend Casey Gover. As many of you know, Casey has gone through more heartache and difficulty in the last several years than any of us could imagine . Right now, she could really use our help.

Casey is the kind of friend who is always there for you, will make you laugh (to the point of tears) when you’re having a difficult day, has a personality that is somehow both sweet and incredibly sassy, and is willing to do anything for anybody. If you know her, you love her.

Two years ago Casey was undergoing physical therapy for back pain, which is not an unusual problem for veterinary technicians to have, but it was discovered that she had metastatic breast cancer in her spine and hip. She underwent painful surgery in her back and radiation treatment as well as oral chemo. She has been tough and brave through all of this.

This winter her longtime partner and soulmate, Bob, became acutely ill and was later diagnosed with Guillain-Barré syndrome, which entailed being placed on a ventilator in ICU, then eventually a very slow and difficult recovery in in rehab (if you are not familiar, Guillain-Barré is a neurologic disease that essentially causes whole body paralysis and the recovery is painfully slow). Bob had periodic complications and Casey was doing her best to maintain her health and care for Bob, their home, and their menagerie.

Last month Casey lost her very best canine friend and her emotional support, Darby. This occurred while she was undergoing her second round of radiation treatment. She has been exhausted and healing from the radiation. I’ll use Casey‘s words to describe yesterday (September 27),
“My entire world came crashing in on itself yesterday. I lost my heart, my partner, my best friend, the biggest yet most cherished pain in my ass, my soulmate. Bob passed yesterday afternoon. I’m crushed, breathless. I can’t find the words to say anything more.”

Although slow, Bob’s recovery was going well and his passing was very unexpected. Unfortunately, Bob did not have medical insurance and his hospital and rehab bills after eight months of ICU and inpatient physical therapy are astronomical. Casey has her own medical bills to contend with, payments on their house, a leaky roof, and she is still recovering from radiation and not well enough to return to work.

Those of us who have worked or with Casey or know her socially, know that she has the biggest heart and would be among the first people to help you if you were having a crisis. She has been a support for me during the last two years while I am recovering from my stroke. She has helped to keep my spirits up during a dark time and reminds me that I’m not alone.

Now she needs the same. Casey is the kind of person who argues with you if you try to buy her lunch. She would never ask for financial assistance, and has had guilt over asking for assistance around her home while she’s been healing.

Fundraising was invaluable for me with my own medical bills, and I want to help her in the same way.

Please donate if you can and share if you can’t.

With love, Christy
