The Journey:

2016: Casey was diagnosed with testicular cancer, leading to surgery and chemotherapy. The treatment was considered a success, and he remained in remission for six years.

January 2023: Casey started experiencing flank pain, initially believed to be a kidney stone. However, a visit to the Emergency Department revealed the presence of a tumor growing in his retroperitoneum.

April 2023: After extensive testing, Casey underwent a major abdominal surgery to remove the tumors, with hopes of a curative outcome. The initial surgery appeared to be successful.

Unexpected Diagnosis: Pathology testing revealed a rare phenomenon called malignant somatic transformation of a teratoma. Further confirmation from the Mayo Clinic diagnosed Casey with an embryonic type neuroectodermal tumor, similar to Ewing Sarcoma, known for its aggressiveness and treatment challenges.

Recent News: Casey consulted a specialist at OSU, who informed him that aggressive chemotherapy is necessary to achieve the longest possible remission before the recurrence of the tumor.
