Casey's Support

Hi, this is Rob Carlson, and I am raising funds for my wife, Casey (Kathleen) Carlson. Casey has spent most of her adult life working in the hospitality industry for nearly 2 decades. She worked at the Ocean Reef Club in Key Largo, Florida as a bartender. Casey was known for putting smiles on everyone's face that she came in contact with.
In 2020, Casey and I left Ocean Reef to start running a Bed and Breakfast in NH. Our peaceful lives changed dramatically on August 11, 2023 when Casey fell down a flight of stairs in our home. This resulted in the fracturing of her skull and a massive brain bleed, as well as a fractured spine, cheek and foot. This accident has left Casey with a traumatic brain injury (TBI). She was air lifted to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center for emergency surgery. She then spent 6 weeks at DHMC where she received excellent care. This horrendous injury has left Casey partially paralyzed and confined to bed. After her 6 week stay at DHMC, Casey was transferred to a private nursing facility, but due to the limitation of insurance support, Casey could not continue her care. Insurance has also denied an acute rehabilitation facility as well as any home rehabilitation that I so feel my wife needs. I now am taking care of Casey in our home with the help of a home health care team. I am responsible for her care 24/7, which makes it hard to run our business. I feel attending to Casey's needs is a labor of love.
Casey is working so hard to regain her physical abilities. She currently has limited use of her limbs. She communicates with us by winking, wrinkling her nose or shrugging her shoulders. She does verbalize her needs at times, although she requires speech therapy, also not covered by insurance.
I am raising funds with 3 goals in mind:
1. Get Casey the rehabilitation care that she needs.
2. Pay for Casey's medical bills that are accumulating.
3. Purchase a mobility van to transport Casey to and from her medical appointments.
My hope is to get Casey to Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital, one of the best facilities in the countries for TBI. Every healthcare professional from DHMC felt that Casey would do best at Spaulding, but again the financial hardship has made this very difficult for us.
Please consider donating to help support Casey. Anything would be greatly appreciated. We thank you for your kind consideration.
