Cash for Christchurch memorial ride to Europe .
On March 15th 2019, a coward radicalised on the internet murdered 51 people in the country I’ve called home for the last 22 years.
As someone who has served others, I have never fought because I hated what I saw in front of me. I served because I loved what I had left behind me at home in New Zealand and Australia. There’s a lot I could say here about how and why this utterly disgusting act affected me, but instead I’m going to offer a blatant rebuttal to the actions of the shooter.
I wanted to spread love and friendship in place of hatred, hugs and smiles rather than fear and violence, and I want to give back to those affected rather than take.
So...I planned to ride horses into Europe from Central Asia and raise money for those affected by the Christchurch shooting along the way. All my costs, food, etc are self-funded and although not planned originally, a German girl “Luisa” and her dog “Jill” joined my quest in Mongolia and are now riding with me.
We will be raising money by auctioning treasures we acquire along the way on the completion of our ride, combined with go fund me donations, donations received along the way, and any money made from the buying and selling of horses to make a single donation at the completion of the ride. A small percentage of money raised will be used to keep the horses healthy if needed.
What the shooter did was pure cowardice, and what we are choosing to do requires bravery, self-reliance and empathy for others, and the courageous little ponies we will be placing our trust and survival in. We want to inspire people to live beautiful lives, to give back to others and spread love and education - not hate or radical, violent views. Horses are the perfect means to do this as the force us to interact constantly with locals in order to survive.
Our adventure may span years, but certainly months depending on many factors, and it can be followed on Facebook on my page “Onward” or Instagram at @petebreidahl. We can be contacted personally via email at [email redacted] if you would like the chance to ride with us.
Peace be with you all, and thank you for any and all support given.
