Cash's Medical Expenses

Donation protected
On November 17, 2016, 16 month old Cassius Kleinhans (Cash), our grandson, grabbed a bowl of hot bacon grease from the stove.  It cascaded down his left arm, causing 2nd and 3rd degree burns from his shoulder to his fingers, as well as a 3rd degree burn on his chest.  He was taken from his home in Palisade, Colorado, by his mom Chandra, his dad Caleb, and his brother Oskar to the hospital in Grand Junction.  The decision was made to fly him and his mom from Grand Junction to Swedish Medical Center in Denver, home to a pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) with burn specialists.

Cash had surgery the morning following the accident, where the compassionate and highly skilled medical team scrubbed away all the damaged tissue, down to the layer of fat, and placed cadaver skin over the exposed area of his arm, which was most of it.

He spent 5 days in the PICU before being discharged for a week.  He then went back for a permanent skin graft using his own skin from his thigh.  The medical team removed the cadaver skin, replaced it with Cash's own skin and then dressed the wound.  Cash was dismissed the day following his skin graft.

Cash is now at home, but he will need to return to Swedish Medical Center several times over the next few months.  This is a four-hour winter drive from Palisade through the mountains of Colorado.  The prognosis is very good, but it will be some time before he is healed up.

Cash's family has health insurance, but the out-of-pocket costs will be around $10,000.  This is an extraordinary hardship for them.

Money is needed right now to help with the costs of treatment and travel to the hospital.

You can also help by keeping Cash and his family in your prayers.

This is an urgent need, as the medical bills will soon come rolling in.  In addition, travel to the hospital in Denver, overnight stays, meals in restaurants all add up quickly.

Thank you so very much for any help you might be able to give.
