Help the Cole Family

Caspian is the joyful, almost 3 year old, son of Ronald and Carrie Cole who also happens to have Down Syndrome. He is their “littlest love” and he needs your prayers.

When Caspian was born, he was diagnosed with a blood disorder called Transient Myleoproliferative Disorder (TMD.) About 2-3% of children with Down Syndrome (DS) develop leukemia as a child. With the TMD diagnosis, the odds increased to 30%. The doctors have been monitoring Caspian with frequent blood draws.

His most recent results (9/29/2023) prompted a bone marrow biopsy and a blood transfusion. Unfortunately, Caspian has been diagnosed with AMKL (Acute Megakaryoblastic Leukemia with Down Syndrome association.) He has been admitted for at minimum, 28 days for his first round of chemotherapy. His treatment involves many bone marrow biopsies and spinal taps.

Please pray for the Cole family. Please pray for complete healing, bravery, hope, strength, and perseverance. This will be a long road of 6 cycles of chemo with a few weeks between each cycle. The bright side to this type of leukemia is that children with Down Syndrome tend to do fairly well with treatment and are given about an 80% survival rate! Doctors believe the extra chromosome that they have been gifted with is a secret weapon!

Ron and Carrie are praising God for the numerous small graces that He continues to send them to remind them of His presence. They are steadfast in their faith that He is with them, that He is in charge and is trustworthy of their deepest fears. Psalm 62 says “Pour out your hearts before Him, God is a refuge for us.”
