Cassidy & Logan-Fund for IVF
Donation protected
Hello! My name is Cheyenne, and I have chosen to start a campaign for my sister Cassidy and her husband Logan. I've recently discovered that Cassidy & Logan have big plans for the New Year, and I want to do what I can to help.
Most of you reading this may already be aware of what incredible people the Hugentoblers are. What you might not be aware of is that for 9 years Cassidy and Logan have been trying to have a baby. In addition, Cassidy has been struggling with progressive and severe hearing loss for 11 years, and now has only 12% of her hearing left. These are the stories I'd like to share, and the reasons behind this campaign.
I'm hoping that the funds from this campaign will help pay for the cost of In vitro fertilization for Cassidy & Logan. This expensive procedure, on top of regular child care expenses & other medical bills, is an excessive financial burden for the couple to have to bear.
The fertility story:
Logan first became husband to Cassidy & step-dad to Madison 10 years ago. Since then Cassidy & Logan have always wanted a brother or sister for Madison. After many years of doctors visits, fertility treatments, frustrations, and heartache, Cassidy & Logan were told In vitro fertilization (IVF) would be their only hope.
It is not commonly known that IVF typically costs $10,000-12,000 dollars and often isn't covered by insurance. These costs, on top of the "normal" childcare expenses the couple had planned for seemed insurmountable. It was after this discovery that Cassidy & Logan decided to take a break from trying and explore other ways to fill that part of their lives.
For the past 3 years Cassidy & Logan moved from seriously trying to have a child of their own to becoming foster parents. They have welcomed children from chaotic situations into the love and stability of their home and have undoubtedly been of force for good in many lives. Cassidy also began volunteering in the Colorado prison system, as well as being active in her church groups & community. Although these many experiences have filled their lives with joy, the desire to have a baby never went away.
With the start of the New Year, Cassidy & Logan have decided to try once more to have a baby. The cost of IVF at the Utah Center for Reproductive Medicine is $10,000, and this is the number I'm hoping to raise. None of this cost is covered by insurance. The couple are also hoping to have the IVF procedure done sometime in March, which is the same month in which Cassidy will have her cochlear implants surgery. I am hoping that most of the amount can be raised by this time.
The couple has chosen to have both procedures close together in hopes that (with ideal turnouts for both procedures) Cassidy will have her hearing restored by the time they could expect to have a child. This leads me into...
The hearing-loss story:
Cassidy has struggled with hearing problems since she was 16, but wasn't formally diagnosed until she was 25. Her type of hearing loss is known as Sensorineural hearing loss with Tinnitus, and has taken nearly all of her hearing. Cassidy has gotten by so far through use of lip-reading and with the help of her friends and family. With only 12% of her hearing left, and with the renewed hope of having a baby, she is now ready to try a more permanent solution.
Since the diagnosis there has been much trial-and-error with her doctor, including experiments with hearing aids that were NOT covered by insurance, as well as discussing the possibility of cochlear implants. Getting cochlear implants is a big decision. This is especially true for people that weren't born deaf, but instead have lost their hearing (if you want to know why that is, watch this video: https://youtu.be/SpKKYBkJ9Hw ).
Cassidy's doctors have recommended her for a surgery to get cochlear implants at a clinic in Denver in March of this year. Fortunately, insurance does cover most of the $30,000 surgery. However, some of that cost will still fall on them, as well as other expenses like lodging, travel, etc. This is why it is so important to me that we try to help them with the IVF.
A chance for a happy ending:
If we can raise the $10,000 for the IVF, Cassidy & Logan will only have to contend with the remaining cost of the cochlear implants & the overall cost of raising a new baby (here's hoping!). It's no small sum for 2 people, but if a lot of people give a little we can reach the goal by March!
This family has a tough road ahead of them. I love my sister & brother-in-law, and want all the best for them. I believe that if any couple deserves to have a baby, it's Cassidy & Logan. They are loving, charitable, and kind, and have made it their mission to only do good in the world. It's my hope that as friends and family, as just a few of the countless people who have been made better just by knowing the Hugentoblers, we can try to do some good in their world in return.
Any contribution helps, and would be met with my deepest gratitude, as well as the gratitude of the Hugentobler family. I'm thankful even if you've just taken the time to read these stories. If you can give today, give. If you can't, keep Cassidy & Logan in your thoughts. Thank You.
