Cast Cryer’s Medical Expenses

On September 23, I dropped Cerys off at school and headed to work like normal. At almost 37 weeks pregnant I was feeling confident that our healthy baby boy would arriving any day.  I had a scheduled doctors appointment with Dr. Deahl, my OB, for 12:15. At 10:30AM, I suddenly felt very sick to my stomach and started having some contractions. By 11:00AM, I decided that to call Cody and get him to take me to the appointment to be on the safe side.

At our appointment, Dr. Deahl and his nurse, Alivia, kept us calm while explaining that we needed to go over to the hospital and get checked in immediately.  We headed to the hospital and were happy to be met with familiar faces from Cerys’ delivery. By 1:30PM, we were in a room and being evaluated.

After only a few minutes there, it became clear that something was going very wrong. I began to throw up and the pain went from tolerable to almost blinding very quickly. Our nurse, Brittany, worked with me to keep me calm and to keep Dr. Deahl informed. After spending what seemed like only seconds in the room, Dr. Deahl appeared and decided we needed to head to surgery immediately. The baby’s heart rate was falling fast and we needed to get him out safety.

I finally regain some memories for these events at around 8PM. My placenta had ruptured and the baby had gone with out a heartbeat for 22 minutes. A Life Flight team had been working on him there at Huntsville Memorial and we’re bringing him in my room so Cody and I could tell him goodbye before they transported him to the NICU at Texas Women’s in Houston. They explained to us that they had started him on Hyperthermic Therapy which cools his body to 92 degrees for 72 hours in efforts to keep his brain from swelling. Tonight at 8PM, the 72 hours of therapy ends and our little guys most important battle begins as they start the rewarming process. It can take up to 15 hours and the results will be evaluated on Monday or Tuesday by his doctors via MRI.

Through all of this, Cody and I have had an incredible amount of support from family and friends that we could not be more grateful for. We are asking everyone we know, and even those we don’t, to help us and pray for our son, Cast Wesley Cryer. We know that God’s Devine intervention is the only reason that we are where are today. The doctors and nurses put in our path have been nothing short of miracle workers sent from him. Thank you for continuing to lift him up. Cast Cryer CaringBridge
