Hey! I'm Castel, a trans man in Massachusetts. I'm a social activist, engaged, and I love drawing and making music. I'm a low income POC, who is aiming to get top surgery very soon. I've been out for going on 6 years now, and I've wanted top surgery for at LEAST 3 of those years.
I have been on hormones since January 25th of 2019, and have thought long and hard for hours, days, weeks, months, and years, about what I want to do with my transition, and it always comes down to surgery. No ifs, ands, or buts. Getting top surgery is very vital to my quality of life as a trans person. I meet all the requirements, I just need to make the consultation and start calling my insurance to see what they'll cover. I doubt it'll be the whole procedure, so that's where this GoFundMe comes in.
I don't get that much a month, and despite having so many resources it still seems to be such a strenuous process for trans youth to get what they need.
I've grown up from nothing, with a single grandmother who I consider my mother, in a Hispanic household here in MA. I never had much as a kid, and we've always been poor, under the poverty line. I've been working hard to change that, to make a name for myself and to be my own person, to not let my upbringing determine my future. However, I'm not quite there, yet. My mother is a little old Dominican woman, from La Romana. She's a tiny bit conservative, very Christian, and sometimes a bit confused on how the process is, but I know she worries out of love.
Being on T for a few months has given me newfound hope that I can do it and transition like other folks before me. That I can make it and be successful and happy. It's one of the biggest steps I need to accomplish before I move out of the state to live with my fiance while he goes through school.
