Castle Gate Arms is an outdoor shooting range located on private property that has operated here in Bangor, Maine since 2004. We offer affordable firearm safety courses as well as hosting Nationally recognized trainers from across the country including: Larry Vickers, GORUCK, and John "Shrek" McPhee, aka, The Sheriff of Baghdad. I do not charge these people to offer their classes here. I offer it as an opportunity that would be otherwise difficult to experience by the public.
Recently, the City Council passed an ordinance disallowing outdoor shooting ranges and has demanded that I close this range down. They further demand that not more than three people can be on the range at the same time for personal shooting and target practice and that practicing cannot take place for more than 2 hours per month.
This is an attack on both civil and Constitutional rights by anti Second Amendment liberals on the council and cannot be allowed to stand.
I have already spent several thousand dollars in attorney's fees trying to negotiate a reasonable solution to this outrageous ordinance but to no avail. The next step is to sue the city, which I will do.
I am asking for your help. They say that all politics is local, and here I find this to be true. This is why I am taking a stand. This is why I am asking you to help make a difference. By bringing suit against a local government that has reached too far in violating civil and Constitutional rights.
If this ordinance is allowed to stand, it can and will become a model for other communities to emulate. Help me stop it here.
All funds will go directly to the law offices of Grey and Palmer here in Bangor. If there are more funds collected than is necessary to pay legal fees, those funds will be donated to a non profit organization.
