The Castleplunkett Development Association reformed in February 2023 and elected a new committee. Since then we have been working tirelessly towards our goal of regenerating our beautiful village and its surrounding areas.

Our first aim was to secure Tidy Towns and local municipal funding to improve the appearance of the village. We achieved this and the new fencing, planting and seating in the village was a great first step. The achievement of this was coupled with fantastic local involvement which is enhancing the community spirit in our area.

Our next step was to secure CLAR funding to aid us in developing the local amenity site which has fallen into a bad state since the flooding of the village in 2016. The vision is to develop the existing basketball courts into a Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA) which would accommodate a number of sports including basketball and soccer. This will involve clearing the site, replacing the existing fencing, reinstating and lining out a new surface and the installation of outdoor exercise equipment around the outside of the MUGA fence. This is Phase One of the development of the amenity site.

Phase Two involved securing funding from the Town and Village Renewal Scheme.

This phase will involve the development of the site adjoining the MUGA. The plans for this phase will see the development of a nature-based, inclusive play area, a viewing area out onto the turlough, an area that can accommodate outdoor classes and a walking path around the perimeter of the site.

The funding that we have secured to date will make much of this possible but there is a shortfall and we need to raise vital funds to make the vision become a reality. The support of our local community, businesses and interested groups is crucial if we want to realise the full potential of our fabulous village. Any contribution big or small will go directly towards achieving the vision that we have set out above.
