Cataract Surgery for Tucker Silas Gravel

First, we are new at this and we realize that there are people who have gone through disastrous times and debilitating illnesses that are much more in need than our little family. With that being said, here is our story......
It all started back in March when we lost our cat from old age. Our dog, Tucker, took the loss of his buddy very bad. He was depressed and not quite himself. As the weeks went by, we were very concerned because his eating habits were going downhill.
In April, we took him for a checkup and at that time, he was diagnosed with severe diabetes. The vet didn’t think he would pull through. He stayed in the hospital for a couple days and he started to come around so we brought him home. He is on a special prescription diet and receives insulin shots twice daily. He gained his weight back and is doing much better.
Within the last couple months, we noticed he was bumping into things and was reluctant to go up or down stairs or jump into our vehicle. We saw that his eyes were clouding over. We did our research and found that his optical condition is linked to the diabetes.
We took him to the vet and found that he requires cataract removal in both eyes. Our thought was that we would have the procedure done until we found out that the surgery will cost from $5,000 to $7,000. There are only two animal clinics in Alberta that will do the surgery, one in Edmonton and the other in Calgary.
Currently we are paying out close to $300 a month for Tucker’s insulin, syringes, Ocu-Glo capsules, his prescription diet food and his treats.
Without the surgery, his condition will turn to Glaucoma which is the equivalent of having a migraine headache 24 hours a day. If it comes to that, we are not willing to let him suffer.
Tucker Silas is such a good dog. He is friendly and loves everyone whether they walk on two or four legs. Our family is grateful for the support we have received in the past; ie: syringes from a diabetic dog that passed away.
