Our names are Luke Konson & Daniel Balserak, we're both 19 years old and currently live in the Northern Virginia area.
After finishing our senior year of high school online, our initial plan was to attend Clemson University in the Fall, but due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic all of our classes would be online. Instead of spending more time in front of our computer screens, we decided to spend a year in the great outdoors doing what we love most: fishing!
Our plan is to go to each of the 50 U. S. States, and catch the state fish in each one, along with whatever else might be biting. We headed out in August 22, 2020! Our route will be somewhat dictated by weather, as we plan to loop through the upper East coast and then some of the Midwest before the snow, and then make our way along the Southern coast and to the West coast, returning through the middle and northern states and picking up what we missed. We will finish off by flying to Hawaii and Alaska, hopefully by the summer of 2021.
At this point we will be commandeering one of our family's minivans for our adventures. We will need to keep our gas tank full, purchase fishing licenses for each state, eat a couple of meals a day, and visit some Planet Fitness locations so we can workout and take a shower! We will also need to have the right equipment for each state and fish. We are thinking this trip could cost us around $10 000.
Through social media, and other media coverage we obtain, we hope to raise interest in the incredibly beautiful outdoors of America. We also hope to encourage people to be adventurous, and get outside more, especially in this age of social distancing. Fishing is the ultimate socially distanced activity! Possibly even more importantly though during this pandemic, the mental health benefits of being in nature are unparalleled.
We would love your help and support in any way you feel like you can help, and you have a chance to be part of the first ever documented journey to capture every state fish!
Thank you so much,
Luke Konson & Daniel Balserak
