Catherine Malatesta tragically died on August 2, 2015. She was 16 years old and was about to enter her senior year of high school. She was an otherwise extremely healthy person up until the day she was diagnosed with Stage IV epithelioid sarcoma in December 2014. Sadly, Catherine passed away a mere 8.5 months after she was diagnosed and after she had to withstand many months of grueling chemotherapy treatments, 38 days of radiation, losing her hair, losing her energy, missing out on all of the great times of one's junior year in high school. The disappointments piled up but that never quelled Catherine's infinite hope and optimism.
Catherine was truly a beautiful person inside and out. She was the very best part of us. We loved her zest for life, her huge heart, her determination, her loyalty, her desire and ability to make everyone comfortable and at ease, her generosity, her brilliant smile, her quick wit and her amazing singing voice. Catherine was very dedicated to her faith and was a first grade CCD teacher at St. Agnes Parish in Arlington, MA. She was Student Council President, captain of the field hockey team, rowed crew, sang in her high school's honors Madrigals chorus and acted in the high school plays. We are so proud of Catherine and the way, at 16, she handled her Stage IV cancer diagnosis with such maturity, grace, optimism and hope. Never will we meet a stronger or braver person. Catherine leaves behind an incredible spirit and legacy. Catherine is our warrior. Our hero. Our angel.
Catherine left behind her mother and father, two beautiful younger brothers, her grandparents, many aunts and uncles, cousins and, of course, amazing friends who would wear her prom dress to honor Catherine's memory!

The mission of the Catherine J. Malatesta Foundation is to save the lives of cancer patients, with an emphasis on children, and to inspire hope and lend support to the families and patients caring for, living with and surviving cancer. This will be accomplished by funding scientific research, raising awareness through fundraising events and providing grants to organizations dedicated to early detection, finding a cure, and optimizing the patient care and family experience during and after their cancer journey.
Please consider a donation in Catherine's memory to carry on her legacy and to give hope and a future to patients and their families.
