Cathleen's New SleepSafe bed
Donation protected
Cathleen is on the move....out of her bed and not in a good way! We are raising funds to buy a SleepSafe bed that will have higher sides and the ability to go up and down to allow for continued care. We were denied from private and Medical Assistance health insurance; we appealed and attended a court hearing and were still denied. This bed will allow a safe place for Cathleen to sleep; no more risks of escaping, bruising or getting stuck between the head board and mattress.
More about Cathleen: Cathleen is an active 9-year-old with the following diagnoses: Focal epilepsy, movement disorders (Hypotonia, Hyperkinetic movement disorder comprised of choreoathetosis and dystonia), reflux, restless leg syndrome and insomnia, receptive-expressive language impairment and profound global delay. The effects of each of these diagnoses include, seizures during sleep, vomiting, choking, bruising and loss of sleep resulting in school absences. We are committed to providing the best quality of life for Cathleen by keeping her at home for as long as we can. We have modified our home to provide an inclusive environment for her while providing adequate support for our caregivers as well. Cathleen is finding new ways to move; in October 2016, she rolled off a changing table at school resulting in a head injury and recently we have found her with her legs hanging over her bed. We have consulted with medical bed vendors, an occupational therapist at Gillette Children’s Hospital, a neurologist specializing in movement disorders and neurologist specializing in sleep disorders to identify the best solution for Cathleen’s trouble with sleep and movement disorders. The SleepSafe II Medium Bed will provide a healthy and safe place for Cathleen to sleep and provide adequate support for her caregivers as well.
Any donation will help us reach our goal!
