Cathy Fisher Medical Expenses
Donation protected
Cathy is fighting what we currently believe is acute West Nile virus which is neuro invasive. She lives such an active and wellness-minded lifestyle so this has taken all of us by surprise. Last weekend, she was perfectly healthy and hanging out at Okoboji. In a very unexpected turn of events, she was taken to the ER on Tuesday, admitted to Methodist on Wednesday and moved to the ICU on Saturday.
Spinal fluids have been taken and sent for testing to determine if what the doctors believe to be true (that it might be from West Nile) is actually true. Those labs were sent off on Friday to Utah for testing. Crossing fingers to get results sooner than estimated (Tuesday Sept 26th). Until we get results, the best that can be done for her care is to maximize comfort to allow her to rest and maintain vitals (which are currently looking pretty stabile).
In talking with the medical personal and learning more about others who have had similar cases, they were in the hospital for weeks to months with extended stays in the ICU. In addition, the rehabilitation process is understood to take 6+ months to over a year. It’s possible that her rehabilitation could be a lifelong journey due to the damaging effects of encephalitis.
We are raising funds to help cover the deductible which is currently $7,500.
