Cathy Kennedy
A Beautiful, Gentle Soul
It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we mourn the passing of our beloved Cathy Kennedy. She was a genuine, kind, loving, compassionate and Godly woman who touched all those she came in contact with. She was a valued member of the Escondido community and will be sorely missed.
On Tuesday, March 7th she was driving along Grand Avenue in Escondido on her way home from a Lenten Penance Service at St. Timothy Catholic Church when she was tragically struck by a stray bullet from a gang dispute and died within hours.
Cathy was first and foremost dedicated to raising her 24-year daughter, Alicia de la Rosa, by guiding her on life’s journey to become a strong, beautiful, independent and compassionate young woman of faith.
Working as a dental hygienist for more than 23 years in a practice run by Dr. Joseph Holtz and his successor Dr. Todd Brilliant, she served her patients with love and compassion while tending to their dental needs. Through the years her loyal patients became her friends. She was a valued staff member who added grace, humor and leadership to the team.
Cathy was an active member of St. Timothy Church and was influential role model in working and ministering to youth of all ages. She was responsible for leading and developing several ministries at the church.
A new and exciting chapter of her life began when Cathy met Kevin Kennedy at church, fell in love and in the summer of 2014 they married. With Kevin at her side, she picked up tennis again, learned to ride a motorcycle, and play pickle ball. She and Kevin also enjoyed sailing days together. Additionally, Cathy was an expert seamstress and an avid gardener.
We would like to help ease the financial burden for funeral expenses and other immediate and future expenses. A contribution of any size will be greatly appreciated.
