Fund for Cathy's Clinical Herbalist Tuition
Cathy Tsong Deh Kwe (Strong Hearted Woman), aka Cathy Walker, is a trailblazing Ojibwe herbalist. She has devoted years to Indigenous community building, knowledge sharing, and movement organizing. She is formerly a Personal Support Worker, and recently completed her first year as a Community Health Worker at Anishinaabe Health Toronto + George Brown College. Cathy was fundamental in creating the Allan Gardens Food & Clothing Share , and also created the herbal street patrol, Giwaabamin Herbal Clinic . Through Giwaabamin, Cathy brings western and traditional medicine to the street, free to access, under a client-centred, harm reduction lens. She offers front line emergency response including wound care, medical assessments, medication checks, daily/weekly aftercare, in addition to herbal support, medicinal preparations, and hot traditional meals. A roaming free dispensary is crucial for the health and care of people who are marginalized in our society, people who fall through the cracks too often, people who may have been harmed by institutional systems of medicine. Cathy is a fierce advocate for those without the luxury of health and medicine sovereignty, and her visionary work has inspired and taught many others. She is an important part of our communities, and it's time we give back to her.
Cathy is currently enrolled in a two year program towards Clinical Herbalist certification. This course enhances her clinical skills so that she's better able to provide integrative and accessible care for her clients. These funds will cover tuition, medical books and medical supplies. If you believe in the work she does, please contribute to this fundraiser. If you believe in Indigenous health sovereignty and community-led healing, please contribute. Every amount helps. If you don't have the funds, you can support her work and skills-building by sharing the fundraiser with your friends and networks. Megwetch.
