Cave exploration @Cabouy – the hidden river project

Donation protected
Hey, you out there above and below water, we need your support!

Who we are and what we are doing?
We are a team of ambitious cave divers from Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Mexico and France who started a cave exploration project in their spare time in 2009 to explore a huge cave system under and above water in the south of France.

This requires diving several thousand meters into the cave. This way is constantly interrupted by dry spots where our equipment has to be transported out of the water and back in again, with lots of climbing passages, no natural light and no possibility of direct communication with the outside world. The challenges that cave explorers generally face are multiplied for us many times due to diving underwater.

What are our goals?
The aim is to collect geographical data and add further details to our map, as well as to get data from our privately funded measuring stations at several points along the cave passages every year. They provide valuable scientific data on changes in water levels in connection with rainfall data throughout the year.

All data and developments are made available to the public and can be viewed by all divers, speleologists and other interested parties! You can find all the results on our website thehiddenriverproject.org or on Facebook the hidden river project.

Why do we need you?
In order to continue the project safely for everyone, to continue researching and to be able to manage the deep dives required, we absolutely need the following special equipment:

  • a communication system "Cave-Link" (Cave-Link ), to exchange information from inside the cave with the surface team. The cost of this is around € 4500.

  • a so-called habitat – an air-filled chamber under water for safely carrying out the decompression obligation after deep dives. Equipped with CO2 filter systems and a communication system to the water surface. We estimate the cost of this to be around € 3000.

  • special underwater tools for installing safety equipment (Nemo Power Tools ). The cost is around € 2000.

So far, we have been able to finance our explorations privately. Unfortunately, our own financial resources are reaching their limits.

With your help, we would like to overcome these limits together!
  • With your support you will become part of our project and together we will discover new things!
  • You help make new findings in speleology available to a broad community!
  • You make us happy by giving us the opportunity to safely live out our passion!

Have we piqued your interest?
