CDH- A Long Road to Recovery (Sabrina Solis)
Donation protected
Hello, we are the Solis Family. These past few years have hit us hard with one tragedy after another, and we have learned to stay strong, work harder, and keep our heads up. We have had INCREDIBLE support from our friends and family. But now has come the time to extend out even further and ask for financial support as well.
Our Story: We were SO excited that I (Sabrina) was finally pregnant at 43 years old. (We have been trying for the past 7 years.)
In December, at 22 weeks, the baby (we named her Daniella) was diagnosed with Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia, a severe condition. There is a tear in her diaphragm, which has caused her stomach and liver to move out of place, leaving very little room for her lungs to develop. Therefore, when she is born, her organs will not function correctly, and she will need immediate assistance and surgeries. I have been working with a team of doctors in Houston specializing in CDH. The first 48 hrs of life will be critical for Daniella, but if she can survive through it, she will have to stay in the NICU for several months. It will not be an easy recovery.
I am not due until April 15 and am 30 wks pregnant, but I have been admitted to Memorial Hermann Hospital, Houston, since January 29. Due to CDH, amniotic fluid builds up excessively in my stomach and could cause premature labor. Jan 29 is when we noticed a rupture in my amniotic sac.
My plan was to keep working as much as possible until April, but now I will be in the hospital until I deliver. The longer Daniella can stay in my stomach, the better chances for her survival. We are trying to make it until at LEAST March 15.
This has been extremely overwhelming for my family and me in so many different ways. We created this Go Fund Me page to seek financial support. I recently switched job positions, took a major pay cut, and we are still trying to adjust to my new salary. Financial help will give us one less thing to worry about during the months I am not working. This could help us with hospital stays (before and after delivery), gas, hotels, and food for family visits to Houston, and at the same time maintaining the household back in San Antonio. Dwayne and my mother have been trying their best to keep things as normal as possible at home for Isla.
Please feel free to ask me questions about our journey. I know it is a complicated diagnosis to understand. I am now comfortable talking openly about it!
