Team Michelle

Michelle Hyman, daughter, big sister and friend, is a Summerville native. She thrived as a student all throughout her formative years and was an avid cheerleader for Fort Dorchester High School. She went on to college, joined a sorority (Tri Delta), cheered on the field for the Gamecocks during the Lou Holtz era, and earned a degree from the University of South Carolina. For the past 11 years, she has been an integral force behind the scenes with Live 5 News as the 6am Morning Director. She did what every American girl sets out to do, and she did it all the while being a supportive, caring and generous friend.

At 37 years young, Michelle is fighting for her life! In late 2018, Michelle was suffering from upper right shoulder and abdominal pain that required her to see her primary care physician. After initial blood tests and scans, her doctors believed she may have a liver disease, but after further blood tests, MRIs, ultrasounds, and CT scans, she was eventually diagnosed with Stage 4 Metastatic Breast Cancer in late January 2019. She will endure treatments weekly as opposed to her original plan of every 3 weeks.

The barrage of doctors’ appointments, chemotherapy treatments, follow-up appointments, and recommended prescriptions has taken its toll on her usually positive state of mind and her work schedule. While there is not a lot that we can do about changing the effects of her disease and treatment, her friends and family are asking for donations to alleviate the effects of the financial hardship she has and will continue to endure. Ultimately, we are praying for a miracle. However, in the meantime while she puts up the fight of her life, we would like to eliminate one of her anxieties, and that’s the financial burden that comes with a cancer diagnosis.

The money you donate to Michelle’s fight will not only provide her with peace of mind but it will greatly help her to focus on the only things she needs to set out to do: rest, rehabilitate, and repeat treatments.
