Ceci's Memorial/DV Fund

On Friday, October 10, 2014, San Francisco State University student Cecilia Lam’s life was stolen away in yet another senseless and preventable act of domestic violence.  

The San Francisco Police were called numerous times from approximately 8:30 p.m. on October 9th until the final call at 5 a.m. on October 10th as Cecilia’s abuser broke down the door and shot and killed her. 

Although her abuser was briefly taken into custody for being under the influence around midnight, he was released after only 4 hours. One hour later, he shot Cecilia in the head.  Cecilia was transported to SF General Hospital, but it was too late. Shortly after her arrival, she was pronounced dead by doctors.

Cecilia was a passionate advocate for the awareness and prevention of domestic violence against women. She was an amazing, brave, kind, and compassionate human being that regularly volunteered her time and efforts at local womens' shelters across San Francisco. Cecilia was also a long-time activist and partner in fighting for gay rights and equality.

Aside from her philanthropic work in domestic violence and gay rights, Cecilia was also heavily involved in the Asian-American community in San Francisco. She was currently pursuing an Asian-American studies degree at San Francisco State University with aspirations to continue onto a Master's program at UC Berkeley.

Cecilia was an angel on earth with the biggest heart one could imagine.  She was the type of person that would defend the defenseless, fight injustice head-on, and give her last dollar to a person less fortunate, even if that meant she was to go hungry that night.

In a true and final act of selflessness, one of Cecilia's final wishes was to be an organ donor. Even in death, Cecilia chose to sacrifice her own body for others in desperate need.

While Cecilia is no longer with us, her body lives on through the people who received her organs, and her soul lives on through the friends, family and the many people she touched throughout her life.

This fund is to help Cecilia's surviving family with the hefty burden of financing her memorial services, to commemorate Cecilia's memory, and to bring awareness to domestic violence.
