Hi, my name is Aliyah, and I am fundraising for my little cousin Alex, 17, who was in a devastating car accident a few days ago. Alex is a dedicated BOCES student, that works in catering and takes his health & wellness very seriously. Alex was heading to the gym before school on Monday morning, 10/24/22 around 5AM. Monday's weather was nothing less than horrible, with torrential downpours and high winds. Alex's car hydroplaned and landed him in the woods. My baby cousin was stuck in the car, screaming for help for over 20 minutes before paramedics arrived.
When my aunt drove passed the crash sight on the way to the hospital, she could not believe that her son had survived. The car was unrecognizable. Alex's vehicle he recently purchased on his own, and all items inside are a total loss. He was so proud of his car and his newfound independence.
Alex has been living with juvenile type 1 diabetes in which his Continuous glucose monitoring device was destroyed, and insurance is not covering replacement.
Alex is currently in critical care at Stony Brook and is awaiting the call of surgery or lengthy inpatient rehabilitation. My Aunt works two jobs to support my two cousins. One part-time job and one she just started in which she is not eligible for paid family leave. My Aunt hasn’t left Alex’s side and I want to alleviate any financial burdens she may have to face in the upcoming weeks and months ahead.
Anything helps! I did not mention to my aunt that I was doing this, but she is such a blessing in my family's life and in her community that I felt I couldn't stop until I knew she had financial support and peace of mind while caring for her son physically and emotionally indefinitely.
