Help CeeCee Find her Forever Home

This is CeeCee, a 1yr-old potcake (Turks and Caicos island dog.) Ceecee came in on 9/3/22 to be euthanized because she was showing aggressive behavior toward the other yard dogs around food.

CeeCee is a “yard dog”, meaning she didn’t have care, other than someone throwing some food out in some dishes to feed her and four other dogs that are in the area. She has been trying to live and survive. As is endemic on the Turks and Caicos, she has fleas, ticks, and heartworm. She has also been exposed to erhlichia and anaplasmosis through tick bites. Because she is a yard dog and hadn't been spayed she was pregnant (thank you, soon-to-be Dr. Alyssa for spaying her!!)

Now that she is spayed, she will spend the next week with us while we are here at the Turks and Caicos Veterinary Associates. We will start training her to a leash and help her to interact with our house dog, also a potcake. We are working with friends on the island to arrange for her to find a forever home through a rescue in the states. The hurdles we need to overcome are getting her to the states, continuing her medical care, and coordinating a rescue to take her. Because of all the rules for importing dogs from other countries, this is NOT CHEAP! We have begun treating her for her diseases, and once she gets to the states, she will continue to be treated for heartworm, ehrlichia and anaplasma.

If she were to stay on island, she would most likely be euthanized as potcakes typically don’t get adopted over 5 months old and “yard dogs” are very pack oriented so she would try to return to her original home. The government does the best they can to help control the feral dog population on the island, and that usually means occasional round up and euthanasia of unowned/unmanaged dogs. Also, left untreated, CeeCee's medical conditions can be fatal.

The funds raise for CeeCee will go to treat her medical conditions and transportation fees.
